چکیده

9 Abstract In addition to longer-term engagement in medita10 tion, the past years have seen an increasing interest in the 11 impact of single bouts of meditation on cognition. In this 12 hypothesis and theory article, we adopt the distinction be13 tween focused-attention meditation (FAM) and open14 monitoring meditation (OMM) and argue that these different 15 types of meditation have different, to some degree, opposite 16 impact on cognitive processes. We discuss evidence suggest17 ing that single bouts of FAM and OMM are sufficient to bias 18 cognitive control styles towards more versus less top-down 19 control, respectively. We conclude that all meditation tech20 niques are not equal and that successful meditation-based in21 tervention requires the theoretically guided selection of the 22 best-suited technique.

The social transmission of metacontrol policies: Mechanisms underlying the interpersonal transfer of persistence and flexibility.

Humans often face binary cognitive-control dilemmas, with the choice between persistence and flexibility being a crucial one. Tackling these dilemmas requires metacontrol, i.e., the control of the current cognitive-control policy. As predicted from functional, psychometric, neuroscientific, and modeling approaches, interindividual variability in metacontrol biases towards persistence or flexibi...

Sequence Learning Enhancement Following Single-Session Meditation Is Dependent on Metacontrol Mode and Experienced Effort

Focused attention (FAM) and open monitoring (OMM) meditation types establish distinct metacontrol states that have immediate effects on how attention allocation strategies are utilised in subsequent, unrelated tasks. Because attention allocation is a central factor in sequential action, the present experiment investigated whether a single-session of FAM and OMM enhanced subsequent sequence perf...

Between Persistence and Flexibility: The Yin and Yang of Action Control

Traditional approaches to action control assume the existence of a more or less unitary control system that struggles with, and serves to overcome action tendencies induced by automatic processes. In this article, I point out that and why these approaches fail to capture the complexity and dynamics of cognitive control. I describe an alternative approach that assumes that control emerges from t...

Design of Metacontrol and Metacognition mechanisms in SMCA Using Norms and Affect rules

This research paper investigation concerned with understanding the mechanisms and designing a rules of Metacontrol and Metacognition. This work investigated the concept of metacognition as a powerful catalyst for control, unify and self-reflection. Metacontrol is a part of the Metacognition task. Metacontrol rules decides which deliberative agents are to be learned and ready to perform in diffe...
